thedailywhat: Follow Up of the Day: Our long national nightmare is over: Sacha Baron Cohen will be allowed to attend the Oscars dressed as his character from The Dictator. “We’re thrilled to have him and he’ll be on the red carpet dressed as The Dictator,” producer Brian Grazer said in an interview with Extra. The announcement follows a “video statement” by Cohen, as his character, in which he excoriates the “Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Zionists” for banning him. Cohen himself was never actually banned from attending the ceremony, but producers initially balked at letting him attend the show in character out of concern that he would draw attention away from the nominees. Now, thanks to the Academy’s overreaction, Cohen has been able to parlay a minor inconvenience at best into a priceless promotional takeover of Hollywood’s biggest night. [thr.]
